Thank you for your interest in Niagara Counselling Services established March 1st, 1995, celebrating 29 years of providing professional counselling services with a focus on individuals of all ages and couples/marital.

*We now offer virtual counselling services with appointments by phone, in addition to the regular in-person counselling sessions at our office located at 449 Thorold Road in Welland.

Our team of counsellors also work with professional athletes, corporate and executive clients and our counsellors have an excellent reputation in providing effective client-centred, solution-focused, short-term and long-term counselling services working largely on referrals from physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, health care professionals, lawyers and social service organizations. We have proudly provided counselling to over 12,000 clients in 29 years of professional practice.

Clinical services are facilitated by a team of professional counsellors with Masters degrees, along with various additional experienced allied mental health practitioners/professionals including psychotherapists, mental health counsellors/consultants, registered professional counsellors, registered social workers, social workers, and professional executive and life coaches, along with social workers under supervision and qualifying counsellors. Our dedicated team helps to offer clients the opportunity for improvement and positive change in their life. We are here to help, support, educate, mentor, life coach, and mediate to achieve a favourable outcome. Our staff are community oriented sitting on past and current non-profit boards of directors, and we have staff who teach psychology and counselling courses part-time at the post-secondary level. Our staff offer individual, marital/couple/relationship counselling, personal and executive life coaching, stress management, counselling for anxiety and depression, bereavement, in addition to career counselling and development, and executive and business consulting. Our services are offered to those individuals of all ages working and/or attending post-secondary education. Please note: Sorry we no longer provide counselling services to families. We do not provide EAP services or counselling services for MVA clients or family court matters, including child custody issues.

Please see our rates page for additional information. Some insurance companies will cover full or partial limited cost for social workers MSW or for registered social workers RSW, or you may also use payment for our services through your flex plans or health expense account at various workplaces, or as an health care expense on your income tax. It is the client's responsibility to check their insurance benefits to ensure what types of counselling services are covered in their specific plan and for the total amount of coverage. *Note: We are not psychologists. We do not bill insurance directly. 

Appointments can usually be made within two weeks of initial contact. We are usually available to schedule counselling appointments: Monday through Friday from 10 am to 10 pm with our current and only office based in Welland which is located at 449 Thorold Road (located a few minutes from Niagara College). How do you know when to consult 
with a counsellor?

Symptoms arise as individuals and couples experience normal development stages, face special needs and problems, or confront unexpected crises. Some signals to look for include:

• Continuous feelings of marital and relationship dissatisfaction
• Feelings of loneliness, isolation, moodiness, depression, sadness, despair

• Drastic weight fluctuations, gains and losses and/or irregular eating patterns/disorders

• Problems with a behaviour/negative attitude

• Repeated employment difficulties, frequent job changes, difficulty with
  co-workers, supervisors, management, ownership

• Emotional distress when talking about one's life circumstances

• Abused victims, spouses and/or families

• Physical symptoms that may have an emotional component

• Repeated illness or non-compliance with treatment

• Family violence or intense anger, frustration, stress and hostility

• Compulsive behaviours: alcohol, drugs, gambling, internet, video games, etc.

• Burn-out related to workaholic behaviour, workplace stress

• Post-traumatic stress/PTSD
  Low self-esteem, lacking self-confidence, extreme sadness
